Korea Axxen launches its 16GB ultra-slim USB memory sticks ‘SKY LUX’ in pearl gold and shining silver color. Supporting 22MB/s of reading speed and 12MB/s of writing speed, it is compatible with USB 2.0/1.1 and all popular operating systems like Windows XP, Vista, Linux and Macintosh.

These ultra slim memory sticks comes in five storage capacities; 1GB, 2GB, 4GB, 8GB and 16GB.

Samsung Electronics announced today that it has begun mass producing 256 gigabyte (GB) solid state drives for use in notebooks and desktop PCs. The new 256GB SSD more than doubles the performance rates of Samsung 64GB and 128GB SSDs to become the SSD with the highest overall performance in the personal computer industry, combining sequential read rates of 220MB/s (megabytes per second) with sequential write rates of 200MB/s.

The Samsung 256GB SSD expedites data transfer when large multimedia files are simultaneously read and stored. It can store 25 high-definition movies in just 21 minutes, a significant advancement over a 7200rpm HDD, which takes about 70 minutes. Furthermore, the 256GB SSD launches applications ten times faster than the fastest 7200rpm notebook HDD. The 256GB SSD’s advanced performance can be attributed to a new, optimized, single platform design consisting of a chip controller, NAND flash and special drive firmware all developed by Samsung. This single platform is designed to easily adapt to Samsung’s 40nm class NAND flash memory.

Similar in weight to a 128GB SSD (81 grams), the 2.5-inch Samsung 256GB SSD retains the standard 9.5 millimeter (mm) drive thickness. Samsung’s 256GB SSD is also available with optional proprietary encryption programming that provides full disk encryption, a key feature for many corporate users.

Transcend announced the launch of its 2.5-inch portable hard drive ‘StoreJet 25C’ with 500GB capacity, which supports USB 2.0 interface and plug and play. This drive will easily fit inside your pocket and guess what, it won’t need any adapter for power as it can do with the little power it will get from USB cable that you connect to it for data transfer! SanDisk soon to launch a new 4GB USB flash drive named Cruzer Titanium Plus at upcoming CES 2008 in Las Vegas, USA. It supports automatic online back-up feature. It will be available in the USA market starting from March for 60 USD. Online backup service will be offered for free for the first six months and then there will be a fee of 30 USD a month afterwards.

Narae Inter introduced a new ball point pen with a laser pointer combined with 4GB USB. The laser pointer works on rechargeable battery and can be charged through USB. These types of gadgets look good for one second but then you find that there are several draw backs. The pen will be bulky due to rechargeable battery inside and small refill means you will have to change refill often. Then refill of such pens are rare and not easily available making the pen useless after some time.

It’s raining portable HDD these days after Fujitsu, Buffalo has just announced what it’s touting as the “world’s largest” portable external hard drive, a 320GB dynamo called the MiniStation Turbo USB HD-PS320U2. This 5,400rpm platter features 256-bit AES encryption courtesy of Buffalo’s Secure Lock Ware utility, and Windows users also getting Memeo’s AutoBackup software thrown in to boot.
